Dominio de Pingus Flor de Pingus 2017 Magnum

Flor de Pingus 2017 Magnum is one of the standout value expressions from Dominio de Pingus, offering much of the character and class associated with the estate’s flagship wine at a more approachable level. Sourced from older Tempranillo vines near the prized Barrosso and San Cristóbal parcels, it combines depth, mineral precision, and generous fruit with the unmistakable identity of Ribera del Duero. Peter Sisseck’s project has become internationally admired for redefining what top Spanish wine can be.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Flor de Pingus 2017 shows a vivid, dark ruby colour with impressive concentration, though it is less brooding than some earlier vintages. The nose is layered with ripe plums, violets, wild herbs, and warm spice from oak, creating an aromatic profile that is both plush and refined. On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, with lush fruit framed by a vibrant, saline mineral line that keeps the wine fresh and focused. The tannins are present but beautifully integrated, giving the wine structure without heaviness. The 2017 vintage already offers plenty of immediate pleasure, but in magnum format it should age gracefully for many years, gaining further complexity and polish over time.

Viininvalmistus
Flor de Pingus is made primarily from Tempranillo grown on partly leased vineyards close to the Barrosso and San Cristóbal plots that supply Pingus itself. The vines are around 60 years old, with deep roots that help draw mineral character from the soils and retain balance through the dry summer months. The fruit is hand-harvested, then fermented with a portion of whole clusters in 2,000-litre oak vats, with a largely natural approach to winemaking. The wine is matured for 14 months in French oak, about 30% of it new, before being bottled without fining or filtration.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a richly textured red that pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, game, or slow-cooked beef dishes, as well as mature Manchego and other hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromatic layers and polished structure to fully open.
