Gaja Barbaresco 2016 Dobbeltmagnum

Gaja Barbaresco 2016 in double magnum format is a flagship expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most iconic producers. Sourced from 14 vineyard parcels around Barbaresco and Treiso, it combines depth, precision and remarkable complexity, while the large-format bottle promises especially graceful aging and an impressive presence at the table.

Makuprofiili
The 2016 vintage shows a classic Barbaresco profile with a refined, translucent color and an elegant, tightly woven structure. On the nose, expect layered aromas of balsamic herbs, licorice, tar, smoke and restrained dark fruit, gradually unfolding with time in the glass. On the palate, the wine is firm and highly focused, with polished texture, satiny mouthfeel and tannins that feel both sweetly framed and undeniably powerful. It is a wine of tension and sophistication rather than immediate generosity, and it should reward long cellaring as its aromatic complexity and depth continue to expand over time.

Viininvalmistus
This Barbaresco is made from Nebbiolo grown across 14 parcels spanning 21.4 hectares around Barbaresco and Treiso, at 250-330 meters above sea level. The vines average around 40 years of age, and yields are kept very low to preserve concentration and balance. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately; fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 12 months in barriques before the components are blended and the final cuvée is aged for a further 12 months in larger botti.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with rich Piedmontese dishes such as veal, braised beef, truffle risotto, game and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1-2 hours, especially if enjoyed in its youth, to help the aromas open and soften the tannic structure.
