Gaja Barbaresco 2017

Gaja Barbaresco 2017 is a benchmark expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most celebrated estates. Sourced from 14 vineyard parcels around Barbaresco and Treiso, it reflects Gaja’s long-standing belief that the village’s finest wines come from careful blending of distinct sites, creating remarkable balance, depth, and elegance.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it typically shows a bright garnet-red color with the translucent clarity characteristic of great Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, spice, and subtle earthy notes, gradually opening to more complex tones of tobacco, licorice, and forest floor. The palate is structured yet graceful, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish. The blend of parcels adds both precision and complexity, giving the wine impressive harmony even in youth, while also promising excellent aging potential over many years.

Viininvalmistus
This Barbaresco is made from Nebbiolo grown across 14 parcels in Barbaresco and Treiso, totaling 21.4 hectares, at 250–330 meters above sea level. The vines average around 40 years of age, and the naturally low yields contribute concentration and depth. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging in barriques. After blending, the wine matures for a further 12 months in larger oak casks, or botti, which help preserve structure while allowing the wine to evolve with nuance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an ideal match for rich, savory dishes such as braised veal, roast lamb, truffle pasta, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours when young to allow the wine to fully open and soften its tannins.
