Kumeu River Hunting Hill Pinot Noir 2021 is a beautifully poised New Zealand Pinot Noir that already feels remarkably complete, even at just its eighth vintage. Sourced from the famous Hunting Hill Vineyard in Auckland, it combines Burgundian finesse with the purity and precision that have made Kumeu River one of the country’s most respected producers.

In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a graceful, light-bodied profile with a polished, elegant appearance. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe cherries, raspberries, violets, and subtle smoky nuances that add depth and complexity. The palate mirrors the aromatics with juicy red cherry at its core, supported by earthy forest floor notes, gamey nuances, and a delicate hint of truffle. It is refined rather than powerful, with a supple texture and excellent balance. The 2021 vintage is drinking beautifully now and should continue to evolve gracefully over the next 6–8 years.

Viininvalmistus
Hunting Hill Vineyard is best known for Chardonnay, but the Brajkovich family planted Pinot Noir there in 1994 with the ambition of reaching the same exceptional standard. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the fruit is 100% destemmed before pressing, helping preserve purity and elegance in the finished wine. The site’s Auckland terroir and meticulous vineyard work give the wine its distinctively refined, cool-climate character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs especially well with roast duck, quail, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, and lamb served with herbs or earthy accompaniments. Serve slightly chilled at 14–16°C to bring out its aromatic detail and freshness. Decanting is optional, but a short decant can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.
