Kumeu River Rays Road Chardonnay 2024

Kumeu River Rays Road Chardonnay 2024 is a refined New Zealand Chardonnay shaped by the sunny, limestone-rich slopes of Hawke’s Bay. Crafted with careful hand-harvesting and a thoughtful use of wild fermentation and seasoned French oak, it combines elegance, precision, and a striking mineral edge that calls to mind the best cool-climate white wines of France.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a bright, polished profile with a graceful clarity rather than heavy weight. The nose is inviting and layered, offering citrus, white flowers, and ripe pear, followed by subtle spice and a gentle nutty nuance. The palate is creamy yet lifted, with fresh acidity carrying flavours of yellow fruit, ginger, and dried herbs. Limestone-driven minerality gives the wine a chalky, focused feel through the finish, adding length and tension. While already very appealing now, it has the structure to evolve beautifully with a few years in bottle.

Viininvalmistus
Rays Road comes from a sun-drenched, limestone-rich hillside site in Hawke’s Bay, where the vines benefit from excellent drainage and a climate that supports full flavour development while preserving freshness. The grapes are harvested with care, then pressed and fermented with wild yeasts before the wine spends 11 months ageing in used French oak barrels, allowing texture and complexity to build without overpowering the vineyard’s natural mineral character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is an excellent match for seafood, lightly creamy pasta dishes, grilled chicken, or a rich risotto. Serve it well chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and there is no need to decant unless you wish to give it a little time to open in the glass.
