Maçanita A Laranja do Norte is one of the Douro’s most distinctive orange wines, made by siblings António and Joana Maçanita with a clear focus on altitude, freshness, and native grape character. It stands out for its vibrant balance of structure and energy, offering a more precise and lifted expression of orange wine than many in the category.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep golden hue that hints at its skin contact and layered character. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of orange peel, white flowers, honey cake, ripe pear, and a subtle herbal edge.
On the palate, the wine is intense yet elegant, driven by cool, lively acidity and a firm, mineral backbone. A gentle tannic grip gives shape to the finish, which is dry, structured, and long. While approachable now, it has the balance and freshness to develop gracefully over the next few years.
Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards in Baixo Corgo, planted at around 540–700 meters above sea level, where the cooler northern Portuguese climate helps preserve freshness and aromatic purity. The blend of Arinto, Gouveio, and Viosinho is handled with minimal intervention: the grapes are gently pressed, left on skins for 3–4 days, then spontaneously fermented and aged for 18 months in stainless steel, with no oak influence.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a highly versatile food wine, excellent with white meats, creamy dishes, mushrooms, seafood, tapas, aged cheeses, and aromatic Asian cuisine. Serve chilled at 10–12°C to highlight its bright citrus energy and textural precision; decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up the aromatics.

Maçanita is the project of António and Joana Maçanita, a brother-and-sister winemaking team known for crafting wines that highlight Portugal’s native varieties and diverse terroirs. In the Douro, they have earned particular recognition for championing high-altitude sites and a fresher, more refined style, helping to broaden the region’s reputation beyond its traditional image.
