Macanita As Olgas Branco 2022

Macanita As Olgas Branco is a distinctive white from the Douro, drawn from more than 90-year-old vines in the high-altitude Carlão area of Cima Corgo. Produced by Maçanita from a field blend of old vines, it captures the character of one of Portugal’s most respected wine regions with impressive freshness, texture, and mineral depth.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a lemon-yellow colour that already hints at its vibrancy and energy. The nose is fresh and mineral-driven, with subtle creamy notes adding breadth and complexity. On the palate, the wine is dense and richly textured, balanced by a lively acidity that keeps it precise and long. The old-vine concentration gives it both depth and elegance, and the 12 months in neutral casks help build complexity without overshadowing the fruit. It should age well over the coming years, developing further nuance and roundness.

Viininvalmistus
This wine comes from old vineyards in Carlão, Cima Corgo, planted at around 480 metres above sea level on soils that transition from schist to granite, contributing both structure and freshness. The vines are over 90 years old and produce very low yields, around 1,200 kg/ha. The grapes are hand-harvested, pressed whole, and the must ferments spontaneously in barrel with bâtonnage before spending 12 months in neutral barrels.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve at 10–12°C. It is an excellent match for baked fish, salt-baked fish, spicy light meat dishes, and soft cheeses. Decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help if you want to bring out more of its aromatic detail.
