Macanita Os Caniveis Branco 2022

Maçanita Os Canivéis Branco 2022 is a rare and characterful white wine from Portugal’s Douro, crafted from old vines in the high-altitude Carlão area. Made from a blend of traditional white grape varieties and produced in very limited quantities, it captures both the freshness and depth that make Douro whites increasingly exciting.

In the glass, it shows a pale lemon-yellow color, leading into delicate citrus-driven aromas with a clean, lifted profile. On the palate, the wine is texturally layered and well structured, balancing a generous mid-palate with vibrant acidity and a long, fresh finish. The combination of old-vine fruit, spontaneous fermentation, and partial oak aging gives the wine both precision and complexity. While already expressive, it should also develop well over the next few years, gaining further nuance and roundness with bottle age.

Viininvalmistus
Os Canivéis Branco comes from old vineyards in Carlão, planted at around 520 meters above sea level, where the soils transition from schist to granite. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently whole-cluster pressed, preserving purity and finesse. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, followed by 10 months of aging, with 25% in new oak barrels and 75% in stainless steel with bâtonnage to build texture and balance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve this wine at around 10°C to best highlight its freshness and structure. It works beautifully with fish, shellfish, and simpler seafood dishes, but its depth also makes it a good match for more substantial fish preparations and even white meats or delicate poultry dishes. Decanting is not necessary, though a short aeration can help open up the aromatics.
