Marchesi di Gresy Barbera d'Asti 2022 is a fresh, dry, and beautifully crafted expression of one of Piedmont’s most food-friendly grapes. Sourced from the La Serra vineyard in Cassine, Alessandria, it combines classic Barbera vibrancy with the estate’s long-standing commitment to sustainable and organic farming. As a modern, polished take on a traditional style, it reflects both the character of the grape and the craftsmanship of one of Piedmont’s most respected family producers.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red colour with clear violet reflections. The nose is distinctly Barbera, offering bright notes of blackcurrant, raspberry, gooseberry, red currant, and ripe cherry, all delivered with clarity and freshness. On the palate, the wine is lively and fruit-driven, with Barbera’s signature brisk acidity providing balance and definition. The texture is smooth and approachable, with a clean, dry finish that makes it immediately enjoyable now, while also giving it the structure to develop nicely over the next 6–7 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from La Serra, a vineyard in the Cassine area of Alessandria in Piemonte, grown according to sustainable and organic principles like all Marchesi di Gresy holdings. Winemaker Matteo Sasso uses a traditional vinification approach, with the must macerating on the skins for 10 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine is then aged for 5 months in lightly used oak barrels before further bottle maturation.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an ideal partner for Italian cuisine, especially tomato-based pasta dishes, pizza, grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and charcuterie. Serve slightly chilled, at around 16–18°C, to bring out its freshness and fruit. Decanting is not essential for this wine, though a short aeration can help open it up if enjoyed young.

Marchesi di Gresy has been in the hands of the di Grésy family since 1797 and is today one of Piedmont’s most admired family estates. The winery owns four properties across Langhe and Monferrato, including the celebrated Martinenga cru in Barbaresco, and vinifies only fruit from its own vineyards. Under Alberto di Grésy, the estate began producing its own wines in 1973, and today the next generation continues the legacy, combining respect for tradition with careful innovation and a strong focus on sustainability.
