Opus One 2010

Opus One 2010 is one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Cabernet-led blends, combining power, finesse, and unmistakable pedigree. This vintage stands out for its deep mineral core, elegant structure, and exceptional balance, making it a striking expression of one of California’s most celebrated cult wines. First born from the collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, Opus One remains a benchmark for luxury red wine in the United States.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of dark cherries, plum, cassis, graphite, and pencil shavings, lifted by a subtle mineral edge and polished oak spice. On the palate, Opus One 2010 is full-bodied and tightly knit, with pure dark fruit, firm structure, and remarkable tension. The wine unfolds slowly, revealing sophistication rather than overt richness, with fine tannins and a long, persistent finish. It has excellent aging potential and will continue to develop complexity over many years, rewarding patience.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from four distinct parcels in the Oakville district of Napa Valley, a terroir especially well suited to Bordeaux varieties thanks to its warm climate, well-drained soils, and ideal sun exposure. Harvesting is done by hand, with careful sorting both in the vineyard and again in the cellar after destemming. Fermentation includes 18 days of skin contact, followed by 18 months of maturation in new French oak barrels before clarification with fresh egg whites and bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with premium cuts of beef, lamb, venison, roast duck, and richly flavored dishes such as mushroom risotto or truffle pasta. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours, especially if enjoyed in its youth, to allow the wine to fully open and show its layered character.

Released commercially in 1982, with the 1979 and 1980 vintages launched at the same time, the wine quickly achieved cult status. Today, Opus One is regarded as one of California’s most prestigious producers, renowned for consistently exceptional quality and for helping define Napa Valley as a world-class region for fine wine.
