Opus One 2015 is a superb example of Napa Valley precision and power, offering the kind of richness, structure, and polish that has made this estate one of California’s most sought-after wines. Crafted in the grand Bordeaux style, it combines Cabernet Sauvignon-led intensity with layers of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth and harmony. Born from the partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, Opus One has long stood as a benchmark for American fine wine.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, the 2015 vintage shows a deep garnet-purple colour, promising concentration from the first pour. The nose is seductive and expressive, with notes of black cherry, redcurrant, blackberry pie, plum, mocha, espresso, cinnamon, clove, lavender, and a subtle cigar box character.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, lavishly textured, and broad-shouldered, yet beautifully balanced by ripe, grainy tannins and a fresh, energetic finish. The fruit is bold and ripe, but never heavy, with a plush, creamy mouthfeel that gives the wine both immediacy and seriousness. While already approachable, this is a wine with outstanding aging potential and should evolve gracefully for decades, gaining further nuance and complexity over the next 20 to 30+ years.
Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from four distinct parcels in Napa Valley’s Oakville district, a region particularly well suited to Bordeaux varieties thanks to its warm climate, excellent drainage, and deep alluvial soils. The fruit is hand-harvested and carefully sorted both in the vineyard and again in the cellar after destemming, ensuring only the best berries make it into the final blend. Fermentation is followed by 18 days of skin contact, and the wine is then matured for 18 months in new French oak before clarification with fresh egg whites and bottling.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with premium dishes such as dry-aged beef, lamb rack, roasted duck, venison, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. It also complements hard aged cheeses and rich, slow-cooked sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to open fully.

Opus One was born from a landmark meeting in 1970 between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, who shared a vision of creating an exceptional Bordeaux-style wine in Napa Valley. The first vintage was made nine years later, and the wine was first released in 1982, instantly establishing cult status. Today, Opus One remains one of California’s most prestigious and internationally recognised estates, with recent vintages earning especially high praise for their brilliance, purity, and balance.
