Pico Maccario Barbera d'Asti DOCG Lavignone 2022 Magnum is a generous and expressive red from the heart of Piemonte, made from 100% Barbera grapes. Bottled in a striking 3-liter format, it offers the charm of a classic Barbera d'Asti with the added appeal of magnum aging, a style long valued for helping wines evolve more gracefully over time.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color that hints at its concentration and vibrancy. The nose opens with ripe red berries, cherry, and plum, layered with subtle spice and vanilla notes from oak aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with Barbera’s signature lively acidity giving the wine lift and freshness, while soft tannins create a smooth, balanced texture. The finish is long, fruity, and gently spicy, leaving a satisfying impression of ripe fruit and finesse. While enjoyable now for its immediate generosity, the magnum format gives it excellent potential for further development over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
Lavignone is sourced from Piemonte, where Barbera thrives in the region’s cool-to-moderate climate and varied soils, which help preserve the grape’s natural acidity while building ripe fruit character. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified as a 100% Barbera expression under the Barbera d'Asti DOCG, a designation that confirms both quality standards and regional authenticity. Oak aging is used to add subtle complexity and roundness, contributing vanilla and spice notes without overshadowing the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for hearty dishes such as braised beef, roast meats, game, and rich pasta sauces, as well as mature cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for around 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open up fully.
