Quinta do Noval 1997 is a legendary vintage Port from one of the Douro’s most respected estates, and a standout even by the producer’s lofty standards. Deeply concentrated, beautifully layered, and produced in very limited quantities, it is the kind of wine that collectors remember for years. Robert Parker famously called it the greatest Quinta do Noval he had ever tasted, underscoring its place among the great Ports of the vintage.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows the opaque black-purple color expected of a serious vintage Port. The nose is remarkably expressive, unfolding with notes of espresso, blackberry, licorice, tar, and floral accents, all wrapped in a powerful, lifted perfume. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with massive concentration, deep sweetness, and a long, commanding finish that speaks to both power and finesse. This is a Port with excellent aging potential, built to evolve gracefully over decades and reward patient cellaring. Despite its intensity, the wine retains a refined structure and balance, giving it the depth and poise needed for long-term development. While it was already impressive on release, its complexity is the kind that continues to emerge with time in bottle.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with strong blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts, walnut tart, or simply on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine. Serve slightly cool, around 16-18°C, to bring out its aromatic complexity without muting the richness. Decanting is strongly recommended, especially for younger bottles, to separate sediment and allow the wine to open fully before serving.
