Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2016 Magnum is a flagship California Cabernet blend from one of the region’s most celebrated mountain vineyards. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, it captures the richness of a warm, low-yield vintage while retaining the poise and precision that have made Monte Bello a benchmark wine for decades.

Makuprofiili
The wine is deep, concentrated, and intensely colored, with the kind of dark ruby to garnet hue you would expect from a serious mountain Cabernet. On the nose, it typically shows layered aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, cedar, graphite, dried herbs, and subtle tobacco, all framed by fine oak spice. The palate is powerful yet balanced, with dense dark fruit, firm but polished tannins, and vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lifted and focused. There is impressive depth and structure here, along with the finesse that allows the wine to be enjoyed young with proper decanting or laid down for 10 to 20 years, where it should gain complexity and secondary nuances.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello comes from Ridge’s historic hillside vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where elevation, rocky soils, and cooling influences help preserve freshness in a warm California climate. The 2016 vintage was marked by very low yields, caused by spring frost and an especially dry, hot growing season, which resulted in highly concentrated fruit. Careful harvesting at optimal physiological ripeness was essential to maintain balance and natural acidity, and Ridge’s restrained, precision-focused vinification approach helped shape the wine’s structure, purity, and elegance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, venison, and richly flavored dishes with herbs or mushrooms. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open fully.
