Ridge Monte Bello is one of California’s most iconic wines, and the 2018 vintage shows exactly why it has earned its legendary reputation. Built on a Bordeaux-inspired blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines deep power with remarkable finesse, all shaped by the high-altitude vineyards of the Santa Cruz Mountains. First produced in 1962, Monte Bello has long stood as a benchmark for age-worthy American Cabernet blends.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Monte Bello 2018 shows a dark ruby color, hinting at its depth and concentration. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle oak spice from barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, yet beautifully composed, with dark fruit at the core and the aromatic notes echoing through the finish. Despite its intensity, the alcohol remains restrained at 13.7%, giving the wine an elegant, almost effortless balance. Still very young, it has the structure and complexity to develop gracefully for many years, and likely decades.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello comes from vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the elevated site and cool influences help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The estate has been associated with winemaking since the 19th century, though production was interrupted by Prohibition. For this vintage, Ridge used 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, and the wine matured for 17 months to build texture, complexity, and longevity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a classic match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb chops, braised short ribs, duck, or game birds with earthy sauces. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant several hours in advance if drinking young, as it will benefit from air to open up fully.
