Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2019 600CL

Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2019 is one of California’s truly iconic red wines, admired for its precision, structure, and remarkable sense of place. First released in 1962, it builds on a much longer winemaking history at Monte Bello Vineyards, where vines were already planted as far back as 1886 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is a refined Bordeaux-style blend with outstanding balance, depth, and age-worthiness rather than sheer power.

In the glass, Monte Bello 2019 shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and youth. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and fine oak spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, yet composed with a striking elegance that keeps everything in harmony. Dark fruit takes center stage, supported by earthy, savory notes and seamlessly integrated oak. It is still very young and built for long aging, with the structure and complexity to evolve beautifully over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello comes from the historic Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the cool mountain climate and rocky soils help produce wines with freshness, tension, and definition. The grapes are carefully harvested to preserve balance and character, then vinified with a focus on precision and purity. For this vintage, winemaker Eric Baugher aged the wine for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, adding depth and polish to the final blend.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, game, or richly flavored mushroom dishes. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and dishes featuring truffle or herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open up fully.
