Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2019 is one of California’s great benchmark reds — a wine collectors and enthusiasts alike return to year after year. Sourced from the historic Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, it combines pedigree, precision, and remarkable elegance, showing why this bottling has been revered since its first release in 1962, while the vineyard itself has roots dating back to 1886.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby color that hints at the wine’s concentration and longevity. The nose is layered and inviting, with ripe plums, blackberries, espresso, black truffles, anise, crushed stone, and finely judged oak influence. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet beautifully composed, with dark fruit at the core and a graceful structure that keeps everything in balance. It feels youthful now, but the depth, freshness, and class suggest excellent aging potential, with many years ahead for the wine to gain even more complexity and nuance.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello Vineyard sits high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the cooler climate and rocky terrain help shape a wine of freshness, structure, and aromatic detail. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot, and the grapes are vinified with a focus on purity and balance. The wine is matured for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, contributing refinement, subtle spice, and classic lift without overpowering the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb rack, slow-braised short ribs, venison, or mushroom-based dishes with depth and umami. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if opening young, as it will help the wine show its full aromatic range and soften its structure.
