Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2019 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2019 Magnum is one of California’s great benchmark wines, a masterfully composed Bordeaux-style blend from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Since the first Monte Bello vintage in 1962, it has earned a reputation for combining impressive power with remarkable finesse, making it a wine collectors and connoisseurs seek out year after year.

In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby color, hinting at the concentration within. The nose is wonderfully layered, with aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle oak spice from the barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and intensely flavored, yet beautifully balanced and never heavy. Dark fruit takes center stage, supported by earthy, savory nuances and a refined structure that promises excellent development over time. While already impressive, this vintage is still very young and should gain even more complexity with extended cellaring.

Monte Bello comes from Ridge’s historic vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the elevated site and cool, mountain-influenced climate help preserve freshness, structure, and aromatic precision. The grapes are harvested with a focus on quality and ripeness, and the wine is matured for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels. This careful vinification gives the wine depth, polish, and the signature Monte Bello elegance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is best enjoyed with rich dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, braised short ribs, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if opening now, as it is still youthful and benefits from air.
