Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is one of California’s most iconic red wines, a benchmark Bordeaux-style blend from the Santa Cruz Mountains. First bottled in 1962, it draws on a vineyard history that stretches back to 1886, and remains prized for its rare combination of power, finesse, and unmistakable sense of place. With its refined alcohol level and long, careful aging in new oak, this is a wine that speaks with authority rather than volume.

In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is layered and expressive, offering ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle toasted oak from the barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, yet held in impressive balance. Dark fruit drives the core, joined by savory nuances and mineral depth, while the texture remains elegant and composed. It is still very young and has the structure to develop beautifully over many years, gaining complexity and harmony with time.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello comes from the historic Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the high-altitude terroir contributes freshness, structure, and aromatic intensity. The grapes are vinified as a Bordeaux blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aging takes place for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, a method that adds spice, texture, and complexity while preserving the wine’s natural balance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for prime rib, grilled ribeye, lamb rack, braised short ribs, or dishes with truffle and mushroom notes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic depth.
