Sine Qua Non Poker Face 2004

Sine Qua Non Poker Face 2004 is a cult California Syrah blend that captures everything collectors love about SQN: tiny production, Rhône-inspired character, and remarkable depth. Built around 96% Syrah with small additions of Mourvèdre and Viognier, it combines power, purity, and complexity in a style that helped make Sine Qua Non one of the most coveted names in American wine.

In the glass, Poker Face 2004 shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at the richness to come. The nose is layered with blackberry, crème de cassis, charcoal, acacia flower, and a subtle frame of toasted oak, giving it both intensity and lift. On the palate, the wine is plush and textural, with extraordinary richness balanced by precision and purity. The dark fruit core is supported by savory, smoky undertones and a finish that seems to go on forever. While it is approachable now, this is a wine with serious aging potential and should continue to develop beautifully for 15 years or more.

Poker Face 2004 is sourced from some of California’s most respected vineyards, including Eleven Confessions, White Hawk, Alban, Bien Nacido, and Alta Mesa, all contributing to its layered expression of Syrah. The vineyards are located in warm, sun-drenched sites in California that allow the fruit to ripen fully while still retaining structure and freshness. Production is focused on crafting wines that reflect the character of the fruit and the natural conditions of the vintage, with careful blending to achieve balance, depth, and harmony.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled lamb, slow-braised short ribs, venison, or roasted game birds, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting for several hours is highly recommended, especially if opened relatively young, to allow the wine to раскры or fully express its aromatic and textural complexity.

Sine Qua Non, founded by Austrian-born winemaker Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine, began in 1994 with just three barrels of Syrah and quickly became one of California’s most legendary producers. Based in Ventura County with vineyards largely in Santa Barbara County, the winery has earned cult status for its limited-production Rhône-style wines and highly distinctive artistic labels designed by Krankl himself. Its early acclaim, including strong praise from Robert Parker, helped establish SQN as one of the most influential and sought-after names in modern American wine.
