Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2016 is one of the most celebrated wines from Bolgheri, Tuscany, and a benchmark expression of Cabernet Sauvignon in Italy. Blending 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Cabernet Franc, this vintage stands out for its precision, elegance, and remarkable balance, shaped by an ideal growing season and careful oak maturation. As one of the wines that helped define the Super Tuscan category, Sassicaia continues to carry historical significance well beyond the region.

In the glass, Sassicaia 2016 shows a deep ruby-red color, hinting at its depth and concentration. The nose is refined and layered, offering blackcurrant, plum, spice, tobacco, and cedar, with a subtle lift of graphite and dark chocolate emerging with time in the glass. On the palate, the wine is structured yet graceful, with elegant tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish. The dark fruit core is framed by savory oak notes and nuanced spice, giving the wine both power and finesse. While already impressive, this vintage has the structure to age beautifully for 15–20 years, gaining further complexity and harmony with cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
Sassicaia 2016 comes from the coastal Bolgheri zone in Tuscany, where well-drained soils and a moderating maritime influence help Cabernet varieties ripen with freshness and precision. The 2016 season offered moderate temperatures and evenly distributed rainfall, creating excellent conditions for slow, complete ripening. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 24 months of aging in French oak barrels and additional bottle aging before release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised beef, venison, and truffle-based pasta or risotto. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to let the wine fully open and reveal its aromatic complexity.
