Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2003

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2003 is a benchmark Rhône red from one of the appellation’s most respected estates. Made from the classic blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault, it combines power, complexity and remarkable ageing potential in a way that has made Beaucastel a reference point for serious wine lovers for generations.

In the glass, this 2003 vintage shows a deep ruby to garnet colour, with the kind of concentration you would expect from a hot, ripe year in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The nose is expressive and layered, offering dark berries, black cherry, dried herbs, spice, a touch of leather and earthy, savoury notes that add depth and character. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with ripe black fruit, black pepper, garrigue and subtle hints of chocolate woven into a balanced, elegant structure. The finish is long and persistent, with good freshness supporting the wine’s warmth and intensity. While already generous, it still has the structure to continue evolving beautifully with further bottle ageing.

Château de Beaucastel is located in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the soils are dominated by rolled pebbles, sand and clay, helping the vines produce ripe, concentrated fruit with notable freshness. The grapes are typically harvested by hand, with careful selection to preserve quality, and the winemaking reflects a traditional approach that aims to express both terroir and vintage character. The estate is especially known for using all permitted grape varieties in the appellation, with an emphasis on balance, complexity and ageworthiness.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine is an excellent match for braised lamb, roast beef, game dishes and other rich, slow-cooked meats, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially for a bottle of this age, to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
