Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2019 Magnum is a benchmark California red, prized for its depth, balance, and remarkable sense of place. Built around old-vine Zinfandel with supporting Carignan, Petite Sirah, and a touch of Alicante Bouschet, it combines generosity with precision. First made in 1966, Geyserville has become one of Ridge’s most iconic wines and a reference point for serious Zinfandel lovers.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is dark ruby in color, with an invitingly deep, polished appearance. The nose opens with dark cherries, spice, cola, mint, and a faint earthy undertone, giving the wine both lift and complexity. On the palate, ripe dark fruit leads the way, followed by layers of pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa, and a subtle smokiness that carries through the long finish. The wine is beautifully balanced and has the structure to age gracefully for several years, especially in magnum format. Despite its richness, the wine never feels heavy. The interplay of ripe fruit, savory spice, and fresh acidity keeps everything focused and energetic, making it as satisfying now as it should be with medium-term cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
Geyserville Vineyard is home to some of Ridge’s oldest vines, with select parcels reaching up to 130 years of age. The site’s old-vine plantings and varied field-blend composition give the wine its layered character and intensity. Winemaker Eric Baugher typically keeps Zinfandel as the dominant grape, with the remaining blend made up of Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet, depending slightly on the vintage. The wine is aged for 13 months in American oak, with only about 10% new barrels, allowing the vineyard character and fruit purity to remain front and center.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for grilled lamb, slow-roasted pork, barbecue, braised short ribs, or richly seasoned mushroom dishes. It also works well with aged cheddar or hard cheeses with a bit of bite. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for about an hour is recommended, especially if opened young, to let the aromatics fully unfold.
