Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs is one of California’s benchmark field-blend reds, showing how carefully chosen old-vine grapes can create a wine of remarkable depth and balance. First made in 1972, it combines Zinfandel with Petite Sirah, Carignan and Mourvèdre to highlight the best side of the vintage while adding structure, spice and lift. The 2016 vintage continues that tradition with the kind of harmony and complexity that has made Lytton Springs a standout year after year.

In the glass, this is typically a deep, dark ruby wine with plenty of concentration and a vivid core of fruit. The nose is generous and layered, offering ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry, backed by notes of spice, anise, pepper and earthy herbal tones. On the palate, it is rich and flavorful but not heavy, with Zinfandel’s succulent fruit supported by the firmer structure and savory depth of Petite Sirah, Carignan and Mourvèdre. Expect a full-bodied style with polished tannins, lively energy and a long, expansive finish. This is a wine that can drink beautifully now, but it also has the structure to age gracefully for several years.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for grilled lamb, barbecued ribs, roast pork, braised beef, sausage dishes and hearty Mediterranean cooking. It also works well with aged cheeses and dishes featuring rosemary, black pepper or smoky spice. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 30-60 minutes if opening young to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open up.
