Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2021 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards’ Lytton Springs is one of California’s benchmark Zinfandel blends, drawn from the historic Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. First made in 1972 and now carried forward by winemaker Eric Baugher, this 2021 Magnum combines old-vine character, sustainable farming, and Ridge’s signature precision in a wine that consistently earns top praise.

Deep and intensely dark in the glass, the wine opens with layered aromas of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers. On the palate it is broad, generous, and beautifully composed, echoing the nose with wave after wave of dark fruit, spice, and savory complexity. The blend’s structure gives it excellent balance and a long, persistent finish, while the Magnum format should support graceful aging over the coming years. With its depth and concentration, this is a wine that can be enjoyed now for its power and energy, but it will continue to evolve and gain nuance with cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
Lytton Springs Vineyard sits in Dry Creek Valley, where warm California sunshine and well-drained soils help deliver richly flavored fruit with natural concentration. The grapes were sustainably grown and destemmed before fermentation, then matured in American oak barrels, including 10% new oak and the rest in barrels that were between one and four years old. The result is a polished, expressive wine that balances ripe fruit with classic Ridge structure.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for grilled or slow-roasted meats, barbecue, lamb, beef short ribs, and richly flavored dishes with herbs and spice. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and hearty mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to let the aromas fully open, especially in this Magnum format.
