Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 300CL

Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 is a benchmark California red and a 50th anniversary release from one of the most celebrated Zinfandel-based vineyards in the country. First produced in 1972, it showcases the character of Dry Creek Valley through a blend led by Zinfandel, supported by Petite Sirah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre, with a style that has earned Ridge a devoted following year after year.

This is a deeply colored, almost inky red wine with an expressive nose of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, licorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers. On the palate, it is generous and layered, with impressive mouthfeel and a seamless repetition of the aromatic profile, unfolding in wave after wave of dark fruit, spice, and savory complexity. The 2022 vintage is already highly appealing, but it also has the structure and concentration to develop further with time in bottle. The wine’s balance of richness, freshness, and firm tannin gives it both immediate charm and aging potential, making it a bottle that can be enjoyed now or cellared for added complexity over the coming years.

Lytton Springs Vineyard sits in Dry Creek Valley, one of California’s classic Zinfandel terroirs, where warm days, cooling influences, and old vines help produce concentrated fruit with natural vibrancy. The grapes are sustainably grown, destemmed before fermentation, and vinified with native yeasts for a more authentic expression of place. After fermentation, the wine spent 16 months maturing in American oak barrels, including 17% new oak and the rest in one- to four-year-old casks.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a perfect match for grilled or slow-cooked meats, barbecue, peppered steak, lamb, venison, and richly seasoned dishes with a touch of sweetness or spice. It also works beautifully with aged cheddar or hard sheep’s milk cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening the wine young to allow its full aromatic depth and texture to emerge.
