Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 Magnum is a classic California field-blend red, bottled in an impressive large format that makes it ideal for cellaring or sharing at the table. Based on the celebrated Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, it carries Ridge’s signature balance of power, purity, and structure, with Zinfandel supported by Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah. First made in 1972, it has become one of the most respected Zinfandel-based wines in the United States.

Deep and dark in the glass, this vintage opens with layered aromas of ripe blackberry, blood orange, pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaf, and dried flowers. The bouquet is generous and complex, showing both lush fruit and a distinctly savory edge. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and expansive, with concentrated dark fruit, spice, and earthy complexity unfolding in waves. The tannins are firm but polished, giving the wine excellent shape and length. Thanks to its structure and magnum format, it has strong ageing potential and should develop beautifully over the next decade or more.

Lytton Springs Vineyard sits in Dry Creek Valley, one of Sonoma County’s most respected terroirs for old-vine Zinfandel and field-blend reds, where warm days and cooling influences help preserve freshness and aromatic detail. The fruit is sustainably farmed, hand-picked, and fully de-stemmed before fermentation. Native yeast fermentation keeps the wine rooted in the character of the vineyard, and maturation takes place for 16 months in American oak barrels, with 17% new oak and the remainder in older casks ranging from one to four years.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for grilled ribeye, slow-braised short ribs, roast lamb, venison, or rich dishes with smoky barbecue flavors. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and hearty mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and while decanting is not essential, giving the wine 1–2 hours in a decanter will help it open up, especially in its youth.
