Ridge Geyserville 2018

Ridge Geyserville 2018 is one of California’s most iconic Zinfandels, and a benchmark wine that continues to earn top ratings year after year. First produced in 1966, it comes from some of Ridge’s oldest parcels, with vines on certain blocks now reaching up to 130 years of age. The blend is led by Zinfandel, supported by Carignan, Petite Sirah and a touch of other traditional field-blend varieties, giving the wine its depth, complexity and unmistakable sense of history.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep dark ruby color, setting the tone for a wine that is richly fruited yet beautifully composed. The nose opens with dark cherries, spice, cola, mint and a subtle earthy undertone, while the palate brings forward layers of dark fruit, pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa and a hint of smoky fire on the long finish. Despite its power, the wine remains remarkably balanced and poised, with structure that suggests it can age gracefully for several years. The overall impression is of a classic old-vine Zin: generous, aromatic and full of character, but with enough freshness and precision to keep every element in check.

Viininvalmistus
Geyserville Vineyard is one of Ridge’s most historic sites, with old, deeply rooted vines planted across select parcels that benefit from California’s warm, sun-filled growing conditions. The vineyard’s mixed plantings reflect the traditional field-blend approach that has long defined the site, and the fruit is harvested with a focus on preserving balance and purity. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 13 months in American oak, with only around 10% new barrels used to avoid overpowering the fruit and allow the vineyard character to shine through.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent partner for grilled or roasted meats, barbecue, braised short ribs, lamb and richly seasoned dishes, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve it slightly below room temperature, ideally around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes to let the aromatics open up and the texture soften.
