Opus One Overture (2019 release)

Opus One Overture is the second wine of the legendary Opus One estate in Oakville, offering a more approachable expression of one of Napa Valley’s most iconic Bordeaux-style blends. Crafted in the spirit of traditional second wines from Bordeaux, it brings together selected lots from several vintages to deliver Opus One’s hallmark depth, polish, and generosity in a softer, earlier-drinking style.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Overture shows a deep ruby color with inviting concentration. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe blackcurrant and cherry at the forefront, supported by notes of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, and subtle oak spice. On the palate, it is rich and seamless, combining ripe dark fruit with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a velvety texture. The wine has the structure and seriousness expected from Opus One, but with a more supple, open-knit profile that makes it enjoyable now while still offering a good few years of aging potential.

Viininvalmistus
Overture is made from estate-grown fruit sourced from Opus One’s Napa Valley holdings, where the gravelly, well-drained soils and warm climate are especially suited to Bordeaux varieties. The wine is a non-vintage blend drawn from multiple recent years, with the final composition kept proprietary and adjusted to emphasize balance and immediate appeal. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted in both vineyard and cellar, destemmed, and fermented with about 18 days of skin contact before aging for 18 months in new French oak barrels.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, duck breast, or mushroom-based dishes with rich sauces. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to let the aromatics open and the tannins soften.

Opus One was born from the partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, two giants of the wine world who met in 1970 and released the first vintage in 1982, quickly establishing the estate as a California cult classic. Located in Oakville in Napa Valley, the winery has become one of the region’s most prestigious names, known for producing highly regarded Bordeaux-inspired wines that consistently rank among the finest in the United States.
